ZAM Marks Its 20th Anniversary with Grand Thanksgiving and Annual Conference in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – June 15, 2026
The Zomi Association of Malaysia (ZAM) successfully commemorated its 20th Anniversary Thanksgiving Celebration and Annual Conference on June 15, 2026, bringing together hundreds of Zomi community members, church leaders, educators, volunteers, and distinguished guests in a historic gathering marked by gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment to the future.
What began two decades ago as a community initiative has grown into one of the most influential Zomi organizations serving the Zomi diaspora in Malaysia. The anniversary celebration provided an opportunity to honor the sacrifices of past leaders, recognize outstanding contributors, and reaffirm the values of unity, faith, education, and community service that have guided the organization since its founding.
The event was held under the grace and guidance of God, with organizers expressing deep gratitude for the successful completion of the celebration, which they described as both joyful and meaningful.
A Gathering of Unity and Thanksgiving
According to the official attendance records, 239 participants attended the anniversary celebration and annual conference.
Guests included representatives from various community organizations, church leaders from Malaysia and abroad, former ZAM leaders, and special invitees from Australia and other countries.
Among the distinguished guests was Pu Zo Khai, one of the former leaders and pioneers associated with the development of ZAM. His presence was widely appreciated, and attendees benefited from his reflections on the organization’s early years, its challenges, and the lessons learned throughout its journey.
The celebration was filled with worship, fellowship, cultural presentations, leadership reports, award ceremonies, and messages of encouragement that highlighted the remarkable progress of the Zomi community in Malaysia over the past twenty years.
Worship, Music, and Inspirational Messages
The program commenced with praise and worship led by Rev. Pau Do Suum and Sia Nang Sian Cin, followed by opening remarks from Rev. Dai Sim Mang.
Welcoming addresses were delivered by Rev. Dr. Kham Sian Muang, Senior Pastor of Agape Church Malaysia, who spoke on behalf of ZAM and its Executive Committee. He warmly welcomed attendees and encouraged continued unity and cooperation within the Zomi community.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Siam Nu, winner of Zomi Idol Malaysia 2018, performed a special song that inspired and uplifted the audience.
Transparency and Accountability in Leadership
A significant portion of the conference was dedicated to presenting reports and reviewing the organization’s activities over the past year.
ZAM President Sia Kap Za Khup delivered a comprehensive address outlining organizational achievements, welcoming special guests, and highlighting major accomplishments.

Led by Rev. Dal Khan Lian and Sia Simon Pau Khua Muan Lal, the ceremony honored individuals who had faithfully served the organization throughout the previous year.
Later, under the coordination of Sia Nt. Siam Thang Lian, a larger recognition program, awarded 57 individuals with certificates of appreciation and achievement for their contributions to Zomi community development, education, social welfare, leadership, and volunteer service.
The recognition highlighted the collective efforts of countless individuals whose dedication has helped strengthen and sustain the Zomi community in Malaysia.
Education and Youth Participation
Students from the Zomi Education Center (ZEC) Kuala Lumpur contributed a moving musical presentation that received enthusiastic applause from attendees.
Their participation underscored one of ZAM’s most enduring commitments: investing in the next generation through education, cultural preservation, and leadership development.
Throughout its twenty-year history, ZAM has played a significant role in supporting educational opportunities for Zomi children and youth, helping many families navigate the challenges of life in Malaysia while preserving their cultural identity.
Celebrating Athletic Achievement
The event also recognized participants of the ZAM 20th Anniversary Futsal Tournament, where outstanding teams and players received awards and recognition.
A total of 82 male and female participants took part in the sporting competition, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to youth engagement, healthy lifestyles, and community bonding through sports.
Special Recognition from ZRC
In a notable gesture of solidarity, Zomi Refugee Committee (ZRC) Chairman Sia Cin Piang delivered congratulatory remarks and presented an official certificate of appreciation on behalf of the ZRC.
The recognition symbolized the close cooperation between ZAM and various Zomi community organizations working toward common goals of service, advocacy, and community development.
Music Celebrates Unity
The event featured several musical performances that highlighted the importance of unity among the Zomi people.
The Blessed Quartet delivered a powerful performance emphasizing ethnic harmony and collective identity, while Global Zomi Lengthe 2025 Winner Huai Sen and members of ZOMUS Malaysia added further excitement through songs of celebration and thanksgiving.
Their performances created an atmosphere of joy and gratitude that resonated throughout the gathering.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
One of the most impactful moments of the conference came when guest speaker Pu Zo Khai reflected on the early history of ZAM.
Drawing from personal experience, he shared stories from the organization’s formative years, recounting the challenges, sacrifices, and perseverance of those who laid the foundation for what ZAM has become today.
He encouraged attendees to remain united, to invest in future generations, and to continue serving the community with humility and purpose.
His message served as a powerful reminder that the success enjoyed today was built upon years of dedication and selfless service by many individuals.
Celebrating Twenty Years
A symbolic highlight of the anniversary was the cutting of the official 20th Anniversary Celebration Cake, led by Pu Zo Khai and ZAM President Sia Kap Za Khup.
Organizers expressed special appreciation to Pi Tania for sponsoring the commemorative cake that became a centerpiece of the celebration.
The event also included the commissioning and introduction of newly appointed representatives who will serve ZAM during the 2026–2027 term, led by Rev. Gin Khan En.
Tribute to Volunteers and Community Builders
In its concluding remarks, ZAM paid tribute to the many volunteers, leaders, media personnel, musicians, educators, and supporters whose efforts made the anniversary celebration possible.
