MEMORANDUM

ZOMI WOMEN POWER
To:
Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) of Mizoram, India Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) of Mizoram, India Chin National Front (CNF)

Chin National Army (CNA)
From: Zomi Women Power, USA.

Date: 24 July 2024

Subject: Request for YMA’s Intervention in the release of captive, Mr. Sut Lam Khai Old Dar Khai held by the Chin National Army

Dear Leaders and Members of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA)

Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) of Mizoram, India

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek your esteemed association’s involvement in addressing a crucial issue regarding captives currently held by the Chin National Army (CNA) in Zogam Territory inhabited by the Zomi Indigenous People, Northwestern part of Burma (Union of Myanmar).

As you are undoubtedly aware, the ongoing conflict has caused significant suffering across our communities. It is in this context that the need for adherence to international humanitarian standards, such as those outlined by the Geneva Convention, becomes even more pressing. Holding and mistreating captives is in direct violation of these standards, which are designed to protect individuals during times of armed conflict, ensuring their humane treatment and safeguarding their fundamental rights.

Moreover, maintaining the commitments made in captive exchange agreements between the Zomi Revolutionary Army and Chin National Army is essential in fostering trust and cooperation among all parties involved. The inability to abide by these commitments greatly undermines any progress towards peace and reconciliation.

We deeply appreciate and commend the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) of Mizoram, India for the compassionate care and support you have extended to the refugees who have fled to Mizoram, India amidst the civil war. Your actions have provided these individuals with much-needed hope and safety. It is with this same spirit of humanitarianism and solidarity that we now seek your intervention.

We humbly request the assistance of the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) of Mizoram, India in engaging with the Chin National Army (CNA) to secure the immediate release of the captive, Mr. Sut Lam Khai to his family. Your respected influence and dedication to peace can significantly contribute to this cause, helping to preserve the harmony and unity between the Zo Brethren.

The release of these captives would not only demonstrate a commitment to international law but also serve as a powerful gesture of goodwill and a step towards ending the ongoing conflict. It is our collective duty to ensure that all individuals, regardless of the circumstances, are treated with dignity and respect.

Please let us know how we can collaborate with and support your efforts in this important humanitarian endeavor. Together, we can work towards a future marked by peace, unity, and respect for human rights.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued efforts towards fostering harmony and humanitarian values.

Very Respectfully:

Mrs. Lun Niang
President Zomi Women Power
