Preserve, Promote, Unify and Bridge Culture and Generation Gap Through Music.
Founded in 2000, the Zomi Music Uplift Society (ZOMUS) is a historic ray of hope and cultural preservation for the Zomi community. With its mission deeply rooted in the motto Preserve, Promote, Unify, ZOMUS has been dedicated to ensuring the rich heritage of Zomi music and culture is safeguarded and shared with the world.
Preserve: At the heart of ZOMUS’s mission is preserving the Zomi culture, including its traditional music and instruments. The organization emphasizes the importance of the Pentatonic and Blues scales, which are integral to Zomi’s conventional music. By protecting these musical elements, ZOMUS aims to ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate their cultural heritage.
Promote: ZOMUS goes beyond preservation by actively promoting Zomi music and culture. The organization seeks to introduce traditional music, songs, and instruments to the younger generation of Zomi and the global audience. Through various programs and initiatives, ZOMUS strives to uplift and enhance the cultural expressions of the Zomi community, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of their rich heritage.
Unify: ZOMUS aims to bridge the gap within the Zomi community in a world often divided by differences. By leveraging the universal language of music, the organization works to unite various clans, dialects, sub-communities, faiths, and regions. Through their efforts, ZOMUS hopes to create a sense of unity and shared identity among all Zomi people and beyond with other communities and cultures. The organization worldwide is actively working to Preserve, Promote, Unify, and bridge the Culture and Generation Gap Through Music.
